The following are answers to frequently asked questions about designerID. If you still have a question then please send us a message by selecting the Feedback link at the top of the page.
My Profile
Q: I've noticed that other designers have additional information on their profile. How can I add Recognition, Professional Associations, Motto and other stuff?
A: Simply click on the [edit profile] link on the "My Profile" page and you will see the ability to add, edit or delete any of your profile information.
Q: Can I keep some of my information private?
A: Yes, when you go to edit your "Personal Information" you will see a small gray box that says "Keep private" next to all sensitive information. Just click on the box next to each item you would like private and it will hide that information from all other members.
Q: I uploaded an image for myself and it is not showing up in the front part of the searches or on the view all designers page?
A: If your uploaded image is not a close representation of you, an abstract image or a logo, we will always shift those to the back of the searches and not display it on the all designers page. The reason for this is our constant effort to create a stronger sense of community both at the local level and worldwide.
Q: Can I add a personal web site?
A: Yes, please type in your desired web page at the very bottom of the edit "Personal Information" screen and hit submit.
Q: I can't edit my company listing?
A: If your company has created a listing then their information overrides any employee information. It is setup this way because they should upload the most accurate description for the company.
Q: What are profile views?
A: Anytime a visitor to the site views your profile then it is counted as one view. Profile views is the total number of views for your profile page.
Q: I would prefer to not have my middle name shown?
A: Simply delete it on the edit "Personal Information" page.
Q: Can I disable my account?
A: Yes, you may disable your account at anytime by simply going to the [edit account] page on "My Profile" and select the "Disable Account" box and hit submit. Note that you can sign back in at any time by simply using your same password and username when you register again.
Q: I just graduated from a university or art school and want to change my account type from student to professional - how do I do it?
A: It's easy, just select the "Professional" box on the [edit account] page and hit "UPDATE." You are now a professional and we welcome you to the business of design.
Q: Can I change my password?
A: Yes, just go to the [edit account] page, set your new password and hit "UPDATE."
Uploading Work
Q: How do I upload work if I skip it during the registration process?
A: Simply click on the "Add Portfolio Item" on the "My Profile" page and then upload an image and enter all the requested information.
Q: Can I upload a series of images for one project or campaign?
A: Yes. Upload the first image and then select the "Yes" box in the next line to indicate that you are uploading more then one image and fill out the information and click on "UPDATE." Keep repeating the process until your final image in the series is uploaded.
Q: Why do you have a Project Type dropdown selection and Project Type Descriptors?
A: The first Project Type is the main project type that applies to the work. The Project Type Descriptors allow you to select other areas that apply to the work so that when a search is performed it may be found in all appropriate areas.
Q: How do I add another "Position Held" to the upload work screen?
A: If you update your work experience on the [edit profile] page then all positions held past and present will appear on the upload work page and can be selected according to the work being uploaded.
Search
Q: I have noticed that I only appear on the Freelance, Country and Market dropdowns when a search is performed. How can I get my listing to appear more often?
A: Project Type and Industry dropdowns directly relate to the work that is uploaded to your profile. So, the more work you upload the better chance at getting listed in more areas. Example: If you upload an "Identity" that was done for the "Banking" industry then you will now be listed under "Identity" for Project Type and "Banking" for Industry.
Q: My work appears pretty far back when specific search results display. Is there a way to get it listed towards the front?
A: Yes and No. All work is loaded into the database and the "Search Work" section from most recent to oldest. If you upload new work then that work will appear towards the front. Any older uploaded work will appear based on the date it was uploaded.
IDtracker & IDgroups
Q: How do I track specific designers?
A: It actually is very easy. When you are on a profile page of another member you would like to track, simply click on the small gray one-person icon located at the top right of their profile. They are now in your tracker and will also be listed in your member message dropdown menu.
Q: What do the small icons mean in the IDtracker?
A: The blue "P" stands for a portfolio item uploaded to that specific member listed. An orange "N" means that this member has posted a news item about themselves.
Q: What is an IDgroup?
A: It is a group of designers that share a similar interest or just have collectively agreed to communicate with one another. It is a group e-mail that lets all members know what is happening and being written. Ideal for clubs, mentoring groups, classmates or simply just friends.
Q: How do I setup an IDgroup?
A: Select the [add] link on the "My Home" page and then just follow the process. You can add individual members to this group by going to their profile page and selecting the small gray two-person icon at the top right of the page.
Post Message
Q: How do I send a message to a member?
A: A member must be tracked to appear in your address book so that you can send a "Member Message" directly to them.
Q: Can I send a message directly to a member from their profile page?
A: Yes. Just click on the little gray mail icon and that member will be added to your address book and will appear on your member message dropdown list.
Q: What is a personal news item?
A: When you select "Personal News" you are in essence notifying all of those members tracking you that something design/business related has happened. The focus of the this type of news should be promotions, recognition, launches, awarded business or anything relevant to the design industry.
Important Note: Any member can lose their mail privileges if another member reports that they have abused the tool and it can be verified.
My School
Q: I have noticed that other people from my school have registered but they are not listed on "My School" page. Why?
A: If a member has abbreviated the name of the school or misspelled the name then they will not link correctly to the school. You can notify that person to make the appropriate edit and spell out the school name so that they match and everyone from that school links together.
Interviews
Q: Can I be interviewed on designerID?
A: We contact those members that we feel will be of interest to the designerID community. Feel free to send us an e-mail stating why we should interview you.
Q: Can I do a video interview?
A: If you have the capabilities to shoot the interview yourself then you are already a step up on those that can't. Just send us an e-mail and we will decide if your background matches what we feel is of interest to the community.
